Game On, Play Fair! – Essential Rules & Regulations for a Smooth and Competitive Tournament
1. General Rules
a) The tournament is exclusively for Indian nationals residing in Egypt. And those communities approved by ICAE to participate in sports events.
b) Pre-registration is mandatory. On-spot registration at the venue is NOT allowed.
c) All participants must present a valid ID card to verify nationality and age category.
d) If the number of registrations exceeds the limit, a registration fee will be introduced to filter participants.
e) The referee’s decision is final and cannot be challenged.
f) The venue must be kept clean at all times. Littering is strictly prohibited.
g) Smoking is strictly prohibited inside the venue.
h) All players must bring their own badminton racket, the organizers will not provide rackets under any circumstances.
i) Players must report 30 minutes before their match. Late arrivals may be disqualified.
2. Match Categories
a) Singles, Doubles and Mixed Doubles matches will be conducted.
b) Separate categories for Men and Women.
c) Age Categories:
18 - 25 years
26 years and above
3. Game Rules
a) Matches will be played as per BWF (Badminton World Federation) rules, with minor modifications for fairness.
b) All matches will be one set up to quarterfinal.
- Games may be played up to 11 or 16 points, depending on time constraints.
- Maximum points will be 15 (for 11-point games) and 20 (for 16-point games).
- Court side change will occur after each set or half point.
c) Semifinals will be 3 set up to 16 points, with a maximum of 20 points.
- Court change will occur at each set.
d) Finals will be a best of 3 sets, each set played up to 21 points, maximum 25 points.
- Court change will occur after each set.
e) Service rules remain as per BWF regulations.
- The shuttle must be below the waist level (defined at the lower rib).
- Any service disputes will be resolved by the referee or a head official.
f) Court side or service choice will be determined by a coin toss conducted by the referee, and the winning team/player may choose either to serve first or to select the side of the court.
g) Service Replay Rules:
If the shuttlecock hits the roof, the service will be replayed.
If any other shuttlecock from another court enters your court during play, the service will be replayed.
4. Conduct & Fair Play
a) Players must respect opponents, referees, and organizers at all times.
b) Any misconduct, arguments, or use of foul language may result in disqualification.
c) Players must wear proper badminton attire and non-marking shoes.
d) In case of injury, a maximum of 5 minutes medical timeout will be allowed.
5. Tournament Format & Scoring
a) The tournament will be conducted in a knockout format.
b) Minimum 4 teams/players must be registered in each category; if fewer than 4 participants are registered, that category will either be canceled or merged with the other age category or a manual fixture will be created to ensure each participant plays against everyone in that event.
c) Up to the Quarterfinals: Matches will be played in a Single set format of 16 points.
d) Semifinals: Matches will follow a best-of-3 sets format, with each set going up to 16 points.Final will be of 21 Points 3 set.
e) In case of a tie in the final game at 20-20, the game must be won by at least 2 points, or the first player/team to reach 25 points will be declared the winner.
f) A walkover may given if a player or team fails to appear 10 minutes after the scheduled reporting time.
g) If any team or player leads by 7-0, they will be declared the winner of that set/match.
